Rubber Soul's Technical Rider

We don't have enormous technical requirements and this rider should give you a basic idea of what we'll need from you and your venue. We always play in the UK with our own PA and Lighting setup. If you require a sound setup rider for an overseas gig then please email us.

Electrical Power

It is your venue's responsibility to ensure that there is a safe and servicable electricity supply around the area we are playing. It is also our responsibility to check the supply once we get there.

We need at least 4 13-amp sockets prefereably fed from 2 independant radial or ring circuits. We draw a total of 20 amps maximum, so clearly, one 13-amp socket will not be sufficient.

The sockets provided must be on the SAME PHASE of electricity supply. It is highly unlikely that a single room within a venue will be fed by two differing phases. If power is being sourced from another room via extension cables, under no circumstances must that second room be on a different phase to the performance room.

For a room within a building, ideally the circuits should be protected by a Residual Current Device (RCD), preferably at the Main Switchboard.

Generator Power for Marquees

Rubber Soul’s Sound and lighting rig can pull a maximum of 20amps on a single-phase 240v supply which equates to about 4.8kW of power.

4.8kW equates to 6kVA and we always recommend a minimum of a 10kVA generator to be on the safe side. Your marquee hire company will be able to help you further.

Please bear in mind that if your caterers will be drawing current WHILST we are playing, the generator must be capable of handling both supply requirements.

As we are outside and subject to the elements, the generator-fed circuits must be protected by an RCD Circuit breaker for the safety of everyone, not just us. This is not an option, its a necessity for the safety of us, you and your guests at the event.

You should also make sure that your rental company supplies the “Super Silent” variety of generators to ensure that genny noise is kept to a minimum from within the marquee during your event.

Room Size

Rubber Soul has a minimum room size that we will play in. This is in place because we are a large 9-piece band with a big sound. In too small a room, it can be uncomfortable both in terms of sound and space. We've written an entire article on the Minimum Room Size for a Large Band. Please check that your room is suitable.

To give you an idea of what the band setup looks like, we've put up these examples.

Stage Requirements

Inside, we don't absolutely need a stage, although a raised platform always looks (see the photos above) and sounds better, so if you can, try and specifiy a stage area 6m wide by 3m deep. If this doesn't fit your venue's dimensions, don't worry, just get the biggest one you can, but try to consult us whilst you do so.

Outside, in a marquee, a stage is highly recommended to counter the effects of uneven ground. Consult your marquee company - they will be able to help.

Please make sure that safe steps are supplied to a high stage and that the surface is not slippery in any way.

Van Parking

Rubber Soul is not your average wedding band that turns up in a couple of family estate cars. Our PA and lighting Van needs access to the venue by the most direct route possible. If the gig is in a marquee, we need to be able to get the van right up to it and then park it close by as it acts as our secure store room and changing room for outside gigs. We would appreciate it if you could try to make this happen.

Changing Room

Please ensure that there is another room within the venue that we can use as a changing room. This room acts as our green room for storing cases etc whilst we are playing and should be lockable.

That's really all we need.

Please contact Rubber Soul if there's anything that's baffling or that you'd like to discuss further.
